17.06.2025 I've been re-recording this album at the moment cause what ive got just isnt mixed or recorded well enough. Its been challenging but quite exciting trying to push my self to learn more about recording but you can really learn a lot just by listening to records. I was listening to Schlagenheim by Black Midi yesterday and I noticed after a lot of the songs finished there's a really subtle tail of reverb left at the end from the guitars and shit. Usually I find reverbed guitars to sound garbage but this is sorta different. You can sort of achieve a very similar effect by having one microphone recording the guitar amplifier speaker and another one recording the room. I keep the speaker line pretty much dry (except for an eq to remove the low humming noise my amp makes) and if you a plate like reverb to the room recording and compress it, it has this really cool tail effect that you can only hear when the guitars quiet. It works really well cause it doesn't overlap w...

17/03/2025 Been listening to a lot less emo at the moment. I've been listing to a lot of Mark Hollis, Bert Jansch, Talk Talk; they are artists on my mind at the moment. There is a way of writing music which is a lot more spontaneous, rather than compositional that I've come to really admire with the more folk elements of their music. It is not intended to be so moving in the way a lot of music usually is. A lot of music is moving because it's written that way. Whether through specific chords, intervals or simply through lyricism, but it just is , completely spontaneously and it's very touching. The sparseness of their records create a lot of weight and the crescendo's and climaxes are much more natural rather than formulaic. Makes for an incredible experience. I don't think this is an incredibly intelligent thing to write, but no one reads this blog any way so I don't really give a shit. A lot of my music has been completely collaged rather than one piece f...
